Exclamation 1967 windshield

I've just replaced the headliner on my 1967 390 Mustang and am about to replace the front/rear glass. I read in a couple of places that to properly seat the front windshield/rubber, you should smack the glass pretty hard with your hand/forearm. Anyone used this approach?? If so, how exactly do you smack it?? Is it necessary or just a lot of hot air. I'd hate to crack it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'll be getting my 68 coupe back from the paint shop next week and I also need to replace my headliner and reinstall the front and rear glass. I could use some advice in these areas, i.e., exactly how tight to pull the headliner, how much of the headliner to leave around the flanges, proper sealant to use on the glass, etc. Any tips would be appreciated. I have also heard to slap the glass as it helps seat it somehow in the rubber gasket.

Default 67 windshield

Kisner...work from back to front. I'd pull the headliner as tight as possible without risking tearing it, although a hand steamer will remove most all the minor wrinkles you could have. The C pillars require the greatest effort. Notch the fabric around the upper corners to help stretch and remove any wrinkles. We pulled the headliner about 1/4" beyond the flanges, however if there isn't any glue on the outside face, the wire used to pull the gasket into place may also partially pull the headliner away from the surface. We ended up trimming back close to the edge to alleviate this problem. If I were you, I'd think about gluing on the outside edge too. We used clear silicone to seal the glass, as opposed to that black goo. We also slapped the glass in an effort to seat it in the gasket. Tips: use the old windlace to temporarily hold the headliner in place on all sides to adjust and smooth out any wrinkles. Also use it to hold in place while the glue dries. We bought new windlace, so damaging it wasn't an issue. Don't load on the glue too much as it degrades the headliner. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. Still not sure if I'll tackle the glass or headliner myself. Leaning towards hiring someone who has lots of experience. The kind of luck I have I'll probably mess it up.
