Question Engine serial Numbers

Hi. I have 1968 Mustang. I think I have found the orginal engine that came in the car. Does the engine have a serial number or some kind of verification so that I can know that engine came out of that car?

My husband ( the chevy man) says he is not sure how to find out if that is the orginal engine that came out of that car. Does anyone know how I can find out? Thanks

The only serial numbered cars I've seen are 428 CJ. Fords only have casting numbers on the block, heads, etc. Like a C8ZZ-****-AB or something like that would be a 68 Mustang number.

Unlike some other car compaines or products, ford did not keep that detailed of records for mustangs. Basically you can only get it down to the correct year using casting numbers as the above post says.

Thanks guys. I agree Ford should of kept up with what went to what. This is supposed to only be a third owner car. The guy we got it from had the orginial trans and air parts. He did the only engine swap and said he put in a truck he sold. We found that other guy who is the one selling us the engine. So it probabaly is the original. I t would be better if we could prove it was it. But thanks anyways.
