1968 fastback Wondering about Seats
We are restoring (For the most part) a 68 fastback and the original seats are toast up front at least. Just curious about possibly putting a different type that stock (like a racing seat) and what websites have good prices on them??? Also any other websites good with restoration stuff. Thanks

Mine in my 68 coupe were also toast, i.e., seat covers torn and several of the springs broke. Thought about going with aftermarket seats but after I priced the restoration of the originals it wasn't much more than new aftermarket seats, plus I still kept the originiality of the vehicle. Ended up paying $159 for new seat covers (front and rear) from Mustangs Unlimited and the upholstery shop tore my front and rear seats down to the frame, repaired and replaced all broken springs, completely stripped the old paint/surface rust, repainted them, replaced the seat buns, and installed the seat covers for $300. I thought it was a decent price ($459 total) for original seats that look like they did in 68. Depends on what you want, i.e., style, comfort, or originality. They're actually pretty comfortable now with the new seat covers and buns.

If you have standard interior, Virginia Mustang has the complete set of seat covers (front & back) for 139.95 until the end of February. Their internet catalog shows the regular price of 144.95 but I received a sales flyer in the mail that shows them for 139.95. I've ordered a few items from them and have been happy with their service.

I believe the seats from 69-70's fit without problem and I think 71-73 can also be used without too much trouble. But if I was going to swap out the seats, I would look to get something like late model mustang seats and fabricate the mounting brackets. I'm just don't like the comfort level of these old seats. I don't know much about racing seats, but mustangs plus has some, as does summit. I am sure they will be glad to advise you.

Thanks I'll have to look into a few of the places mentioned. Our problem is both of us are short and for the the orignal seats are that comfortable and since the car is most likely getting a 351W in it and some fun mods I want it to be easy to drive/race....Maybe I could get a set of 93 gt style seats and have the custom leather with the ponies running across... maybe that would be the route to go.
