289 in a 61 Falcon?

Does anyone know if a mustang 289 will fit allright in a 61 Ford Falcon. I know the first Mustang is based off the Falcon body. I have a great 61 Falcon but it has a straigt Six. Does the early Mustang Trany fit in this Falcon. I 'm thinking 289 nicely moded with a 4 speed or auto. Is this possible

Man - I remember seeing/hearing falcons with 289s in my younger days - light cars awesome motor. I don't remember what years they were but I it was in the 60s and yes they were 289s.

Thats what I thought My bro has a 61 Falcon almost perfect, needs a rear bumper. I figured I might be able to throw a 289 in there with some work of course, and have a mean flyin machine

There is a model for you to follow. In '63.5 Ford built the first 260 v8 powered Falcon Sprints. These were basically the same car as the '61. You might try to find library magazine articles discussing the '63.5 Falcon Sprint V8 and changes made...
