How much horse power can i get out of a 289????

Thats an open ended question. How much do you want to spend, speed is money or something like that. Ok, realistically the 1 hp per cubic inch mark is pretty easy to atain and retain relibility. More costs lots of money and relibility. How much power is relative. I saw in I think Mustang and Fords a 8 second car (don't quote me on that, feeble memory) powered by a 289. It was damn fast and 289 powered though.

A 289 is basically a 302 or 5.0 . That being said, 5.0's are pretty well documented performance wise. You might want to visit the late model board and get some ideas. Speed is just a question of money. Good Luck
