Unhappy 289 will not start when hot!!!!!!!!!!1

I have a 67 289 3 spd. When the car is cold (ie been sitting for a while) it starts up fine. Once I drive it around and it gets hot it doesn't want to start. I acts like the battery is dead. Once I let it sit for a while and it cools down it will start back up with no problem. The battery is less then 2 weeks old. I made sure that it was strong enough for the engine. I am stumped.. I don't know why it is doing this!!! HELP!!!!!!!

Is the exhaust routed near the starter motor? Usually when this happens, it's due to an old stater motor that functions poorly when it's hot. Even a new starter cranks slower if it's hot. At least, that's what I've always seen.

Rev is Right about weak starters. Also check your selinoid and make sure all your wires are making good contact, but my money is on the starter. Good news is in old mustangs they are cheap.

Yep, I would almost bet on you having headers. It sounds exactly like the starter getting too hot...a problem more common on Chevies because of the solenoid being mounted on the starter. Go through and make sure all of the electrical connections are tight and clean. Try to shield the starter from the heat, and maybe replace the solenoid just to be sure.

cjeck your fuel routing, if its too close to a heat source you my be getting a vapor lock. test this by ccoling the corb/fuel inlet with freon or electrical cooling spray wich canbe found at any electrical store.cool it & see if this helps. ALSO make shure you have GOODground connections ie. batt to frame, firewall to eng.,ign switch connections under the dash. good luck

If you dont figure any thing out it could be in the windings of the starter itself. Also the connections should be checked inside the starter there could be some corrosion in there somewhere creating excess resistance in the circuit, and heat(from your exhaust)
will cause an increase in resistance causing your starter to not function.
