302 engine identification

anyone can identifie a couple of 302 engine block I have with numbers on the blocks
which numbers give out the year etc...

What are your casting numbers? Quick guide, the first letter is decade the second number is year in decade.
C = 60's
D = 70's
E = 80's
example D3 = 73 or E8 = 88.

thanks thunderbolt

so i guess E7TE

would be an 87 whats TE for?

My 68 also has a 302 in it (not original engine). I'd like to also know what year car it came from. Where are the casting #s located on the block? Thanks.

Underside near the starter.

ponydude:
No idea, what the te stands for. By the way, this method works for all ford parts, but the casting numbers are when the casting was made. So several parts in my 72 are stamped D1 because the casting was made in 71 and not changed in 72. Engines apparently get stamped with each year. If you have an 87 block, you got a good one, roller cam and all, decent block thickness too.

thanks thunderbolt!!!

I must be going blind. Can't locate the casting # anywhere. You said underneath near the starter - is it inside the engine block or could my manifold have it covered up?

Kisner:
I am not sure where to find casting numbers on the block other than in the lifter valley under the intake manifold. Are the exhaust and intake manifolds from the current engine? They will have casting numbers on them that will corespond to the engine. My 72 mainifolds have D2 as the first two numbers in their casting numbers. The casting number on the heads is under the valve covers. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. Nope, I don't have original manifolds. When I got it, it had rusted out headers and I replaced with replica high performance 289 manifolds.

Re: 302 engine identification

The 302 i got from an 89 has two sets of cast numbers. One set clearly shows OM13. The other is hard to make out. F13E, F23E, F2PE ???? Trying to determine year ???? Any suggestions on how to pin this dow?
