302 performance question
i have a 302, with a holly carb, electric fuel pump. for some reason id dosent excelerate well anymore, the motor was rebuilt 3 months ago, when it was rebuilt we put an orignal autolite carb on it "brand new" and for some reason the carb messed all up <ie> loose screws in the carb floats stuck all the way up, leaking gas, so we replaced it with the holly. anyway. when i excelerate i hear a gurgling type sound and it sounds like its comming from the motor, i was thinking maybe to much gas and i should adjust the floats. just wanted to get some imput on this before try this.. any ideas?

Re: 302 performance question
dose it do anything beside gurgle? if it was to sputter or die at all you might try adjusting your accellerator pump, i know on my 67 its been running like crap since that went out of adjustment

it dosent sputter or stall, runs fine when it happends just sounds like hell, it will still excelerate.

Re: 302 performance question
Too much Carb...
Tone it down. I'd suggest something that surprised me... a Holley 600 with vacuum secondaries. Pick up a spring kit and a trick kit... and enjoy a day of holeshots and burnouts trying to get the best set up. I found that a more aggressive carb cam, combined with a lighter spring really worked well with a moderately enhanced 302. |
