Default Windsor and Cleveland Differences??

351 W 351C are Windosr and Cleveland. What is 351m??
I've been told that the M stands for Modified, if so what do they mean by modified?? Is it a hybrid of the Windsor and Cleveland?? Like maybe a Cleveland short block and Windsor heads perhaps??
Also what are the Differences between 351C and 351W??
Can any parts be interchanged??
Which one is better, or do they just have their own pros and cons and "better" is just personal preference?

The Clevelands are stronger motors, with 4 bolt mains. Here is a list of basic differences between the two. Basically, the 4 venturi Cleveland motor was the 'hot' 351 in the muscle car years. That's why its 'better'.

Duece is right for the most part except not all clevlands are 4 bolt motors. The M motor is a small displacement big block loosley based on the Clevland design and the Clevland is a big displacement Small block (the M has big block motor mounts and bellhousing pattern and the cleavland has small block motor mounts and bell pattern.) The M was a smog laden pig wihtt big main bearings as well bigger than even a windsor motor. Which is the reason you can turn down a 400 m crank to windsor mains and create a 408 stroker with one. The old poor boy combo was to use a 400 crank chrysler rods and 302 pistons to make a 408 i don't remember now which chrysler rods they were other than to say it was one of there six cylinders.

Actually, the 351-M is a 351. In the early 70's they built the 400 for the big passenger cars and trucks. Lots of torque in a low stress engine (low revs) In '78 they destroked it to a 351 by changing the grank and pistons. You can stroke a 351-M the same way. I did it last Summer. New stock 400 crank and stock pistons. Instant 400. Added a 2400 rpm torque convertor and it's one stump pullin 79 Bronco. AND. . . .compared to a Kenworth, it gets pretty good milage.

The 351M is a 400 block with a 351W crank.
