Sticking Spedometer
Was wondering if anyone else has come acrost this problem yet. My spedometer is sticking when it is cold. It stays at 0 for a couple of miles and then "comes on" and reads correctly. I am guessing something is sticking and gummy, but don't know whether to start at the spedo, or the trany. Any one else solve this already.

I've seen speedo's jerk around pretty spastically, but that is usually the result of the cable sticking.
I can't see how anything could be bad inside the transmission--it's just two gears, either they are working or the aren't--so to me that only leaves the speedometer itself. Anybody have a better guess? ------------------ 66 GT Fastback 5.0, 5-speed, cable clutch, JBA's, 3.40 gears, EFI coming soon? |

Pull the cable from the speedo and give it a good shot of cable lube - cheap, easy to do and usually solves these kinds of problems 80 percent of the time

You might have already solved your problem but I just wanted to chime in. Two years ago this happened to my 66 and it turned out the speedo cable wasn't mated correctly to the speedometer. Basically it wasn't all the way tight. I disconnected it - reconnected it and everything was fine. At any rate, when you get to that stage you'll have access to the cable for cable lube as previously suggested.
Good luck. ------------------ 66 Tahoe Turquoise Coupe Laser Red 96GT Ragtop Both are slow but easy on the eyes! |

jaydee is right. Cable lube after disassembly fixed mine. Hope everyone works as well as ours.
