351W head swap

I was wondering if anypne here has ever done a head swap on a 289 with 351W heads. I have the heads and the shouldered washers, but i was wondering if anyone knows how much i should shave the heads down to get my compression ratio back up? Also if any could let me know what gaskets i'll need, i pretty sure someone told me to use head gaskets for a 351 and intake gaskets for a 289.

Re: 351W head swap

Make sure your valves are 1.85/1.55. I think some later 351W heads had smaller valves. My 351W heads were angle milled to give a 59.5 cc chamber. I believe it took .050" to get that. With TRW forged flat tops with a .005 deck height, I think I had around 9.5/1 CR. A pocket port and gasket match job will help also and doesn't cost a whole lot.

I really didn't get as much as expected when I spent $2000 for TFTW pocket ported heads and 1.7 RR's. Often I reflect and wonder why I didn't spend that $$ towards a Paxton. Water under the bridge?

The jist is that my 351W heads did very well for the money spent.

P.S. If anyone is interested in buying these 351W heads, PM me.

Thanks i appreciate it and yea i did check the valves before i bought them. They are 70 heads so they were one of the good years.
