Cool 351w Swap In A 68

I Have A 68 Fastback With A 302 4bbl. I Am Wanting To Swap A '86 351w 4bbl In The Car. The Car Has A C4 Trans, Indash A/c (works), Ps, And Non Power Disc Brakes. (front) What Do I Need To Change To Do This Swap. Are The Oil Pans The Same ? What About The Flex Plate, Motor Mounts, Accessory Brackets, Ect. Ill Be Useing A Duraspark Iv Ignition (msd Later), Low Profile Victor Jr Intake, And A 750 Cfm Edelbrock Carb. I Would Also Like Some Info If Any One Has Retrofit A 69 Shaker On The Stock 68 Hood (with Turn Signals) And What Is Needed To Do The Swap.
Thanks For The Help
Micheal

I believe everything is the same except the 351w is taller. The 68's could come stock with a big block, so you should be ok as far as clearance goes. Oil pan is different, as mustangsplus shows two different parts for a 302 and 351w. MP shows the same part number for the flexplate, as long as its the same balance. If you have the entire 351 I dont really see you having any problems, might have to get some different headers if you are running them. Good luck, im sure others will chime in, as personally I've never swapped a 351 for a 302 before.

Should be a direct bolt in. The two engines, 68 and 70 have the same imbalance, so that won't be a concern.

As said above, you could get a 428 [FE] engine in a 68. It will fit.

The oil pans are different.

Also, if you look in the catalogs, can't remember which one, they offer headers specific for this swap. Would make life easier I'm sure.

As far as the shaker hood. I'm sure it can be done. Might look a little strange with the turnsignals and the shaker on the same hood. In 68 the fixed scoop wasn't on the hood with turnsignals, at least I've never seen one factory done.

I Also Have A Roller Ho 302 (93 Model) Would I Be Better Off Going With It Instead Of The 351? This Car Is A Daily Driver And I Want More Of A Cruiser Then A Race Car. I Plan On Staying Around 300-350 Hp.

Do you have the efi for the 302? I would swap the roller into it along with the efi if you do, that would make a nice daily driver.

The 302 would be a little easier and cheaper then a 351 swap. The roller 302 has a bunch more speed parts available for it. The efi swap would be a great addition, BUT, you'll need the wiring harnesses, ECU, sensors, etc from a donar car to complete the swap. You'll also have to add a high pressure fuel pump to supply the injectors. Don't think I'm raining on your parade if you want the efi. It is just that a carb instead of efi would be much easier and cheaper.

It you want the extra power the 351 is the way to go. It would be a little more $$$ then a straight 302 [carb. to carb] swap, but not as expensive as a efi swap. I personally like the idea of having 49 extra cubic inches with the 351 swap. You'd have to stroke the 302 to 347 to get the equivalent. Plus, everything else would bolt practically bolt in.

Tough call on your behalf....depends on you now.

Happy New Year !!!!

It should be a direct bolt in, no special swap headers needed. The swap headers are for putting a 351w into a 66, which I am currently working on. The 68's came with big blocks, so there should be nothing special to it. Especially since it has a 302 in it now, everything should bolt right to it.
