4 to 5 lug conversion

New to Board...........

Just bought a 65 Coupe for the wife as a retirement gift.

Would like to know if its possible and what would interchange to change to the 5 bolt pattern?

Thanks in advance

This might sound silly but dont you already have 5 lugs? Never heard of early stangs with a 4bolt pattern.

4 to 5 lug

The car I bought was made in August of 64, had the 4 bolt pattern.

Not sure if you'd be up for this, but if you wanted to mount some late model 16" or 17" wheels, you could order some spacers that would have 5 studs for your new wheels that would bolt to your 4 lug hubs. No one would know it's a four lugger.

My '68 coupe came with 4 lug drums, and I used a Stainless Steel Brakes Co. 5 lug disc conversion on it. I've had it on there for 7 years now and I put around 12000 to 15000 miles a year on the car, and it works great.

through 1970, all six cylinder mustangs had four bolt wheels, and drum brakes. it is possible to change them over to 5 bolt wheels, but you will need to replace the front spindles and hubs, and as long as you are there you may as well swap to granada front disc brakes. at the rear you will need to swap the rear axle from the granada as well to get the 5 lug pattern, so but a cheap parts car. since you are doing this for your wife, convert to power brakes as well. you might be able to use the granada power booster, but check out www.mustangsteve.com as he has an article on swaping to power brakes. if you want to add power steering as well, you can use the power ram, and draglink from a maverick.

Re: 4 to 5 lug conversion

im currently doing the same you are with my 67 coupe and im going with a 8inch 5 lug rear end and 5 lug granada spindles with disk brakes. Are you converting to a V8? Me personally if you are going to keep the Inline6 i would just leave the 4lug spindles.

Re: 4 to 5 lug conversion

If possible when converting to 5-lugs stay away from granada parts. The reason for this is if you want to upgrade to rack and pinion or make any other front suspension mods the granada spindles and calipers are not compatible with a lot of aftermarket parts. Find parts for mustangs that had disc brakes. The original calipers were 4 piston. With the right master cylinder they work great.
