Default 4.6 heads on a 4.7 or 5.0

Will 4.6L heads fit on a 289? If so will I have a good perfomance increase? Or would I be better off with 351w heads? Thanks for the help.

I assuem you mean the new motors and they are 2 cammed engines in the head or so i understand. so im thinking a big no. I think thats the scoop.

i would put 302 heads on it personally or actaully it more depends on what its for but heads for 351's are probalyl gonan be needing some air flow being sucked through alto faster then your 289's stock potential.

Just a thought.

As far as I know, the new 4.6 shares nothing in common with older motors so head swaps would be out of the question.

But the 351W head swap is a common swap for better heads. Early heads (69-70) are most desirable because of their higher compression (smaller chambers). If I was in this market I would also look at World Products heads. I think they make a windsor head that is supposed to be pretty good for the money.

Thanks, I didn't think they would work but I though I would ask. And as far a Duel cams, the new mustangs are all SOHC except the Cobra's witch has a DOHC. I'm told in 2004 theres going to be a 302 quad cam(QOHC?) mustang but I'll beleave it when I see it.

Just a quick note, when vetteeatr said dual cam engines, I think he meant one cam per head = dual cams. SOHC V engines have 2 camshafts and DOHC V engines have 4 cam shafts. I would expect this 4 cam 302 to be a DOHC engine like the cobra.

Old fashion pushrod engines are OHV, single cam setups. Hope that dosen't sound like a *******, I don't mean it that way.

WOW!...now that i've read a repair manual for 4.6L SOHC & DOHC engines, I feel really stupid for asking this question!
