In 1964, the Mustang was the Indy Pace Car. There were something like 3 actual pace cars made, 1 paced, the two were back ups. They were equiped with the not yet released 289 "K"code with 4 spd Borg and Warner trannys I believe. The contest, and dealer sold pace cars (Around 200 if I remember correctly) had "D" code 289's. THey were all coupes.
Theres a Junkyard i know of in my home town up in PA that is a Muscle Car Junkyard Heaven. This guy has all kinds of rare fords, every thing from 63 Galaxie 427 R codes, to two actual 64 1/2 pace car coupes. He also has another 64 1/2, a 65 K code, and a 66 K code coupe, a 59 Caddillac herse, a 58 Plymouth Fury 318 dual quad. You wouldnt believe this place, I asked the guy that owns it if he'd be interested in selling any of the cars. He told me "NO" hes planning on restoring them. Its his bussiness.
