Not sure where your info on a red/black combo not being avaliable in 64 1/2, but we had a new 64 1/2 D code poppy red covert in our family which was purchased in May/64 and I saw and talked with the 2nd owner of a 64 1/2 poppy red/black hardtop at the 35th anniversery show in North Carolina that had all of the original paperwork on display with the car. Also all of the 64 1/2 color and interior trim avaliabilty charts I have seen for show both code 3 poppy and code J rangoon red as being avaliable. Have also seen this combo on many 64 1/2's at various shows. Hope this helps

The catalog from Texas Mustang Parts has a section that lists the paint colors and trim packages for the early Mustangs. According to this list, the Rangoon Red 64 1/2 Mustang came with a black interior.
