Post 65 egnition swap

I just bought a 65 hardtop and when you crank it over, it fires right up but when you turn the spring loaded egnition switch back to run, it quits running. seems to do it when it is cold the most but it will start eventually. Any ideas? I bought a new switch but cant seem to get the old one out.
Thanks
Burl

You need to use a paperclip and push the little button in, through the hole in the key tumbler when you turn it to ACC.

Then unscrew bezel and remove switch.

Make sure that you have current at the coil when the switch is in "run". There is a bypass that gives more voltage to coil in start and lowers it in run.

Your coil maybe weak and needs 12 volts.

it sounds to me more like an electrical ie wiring problem than the switch, check for power at the coil while the key is in the run positionthen work you way back to the dash, there is a heavy pink resistor wire that is supposed to be hook up to the red green wire from the ignition switch if this wire is disconnected or damaged the car will not run in the run position. remember that the "I" terminal on the solenoid only supplys the power to the coil during startthat is why your car runs while the starter is engaged and cut off when the key is on run.
