![]() I posted the following info on another Stang site a few months back:
I posted some questions about windshields a couple weeks back and many people e-mailed me asking to let them know what I find out. Here is what I've learned. Could be different in your area, but I called more than 20 auto glass shops here in So. Cal. Most shops told me Carlite no longer makes the windshields, however a few told me they "could" get them but quoted me a price of $500 minimum (glass only - since I was doing the install myself)and 2 weeks to get. Most shops tried to sell me a "generic" replacement and some didn't even know the brand name. The brand LOF came up alot (prices from $110 - 195). I finally found a place that specializes in vintage and I got the following info. 1. Carlite is now owned by Visteon and they do still have some of the classic stuff 2. LOF is one of the better generics, but all generics are thin and the laminating isn't all that great. The fit is also marginal 3. He suggested a PPG windshield. He ordered it and said if I'm not satisfied he'd sell me a Carlite at cost. The PPG was properly tinted, THICK glass like the Carlite, smooth edges, EXCELLENT fit, cost $135, and has the PPG name behind it. I will try to post a follow up after a while to let everyone know how it holds up. Hopefully this post will help the next Stang owner who searches for replacement windshields
