Post Dash Paint

I'll be painting my 68's dash within the next week. My question is I know the semi-gloss black acrylic lacquer is supposed to be used to be correct, but does anyone see a problem with using semi-gloss black engine enamel? I have several cans left over and have used it on several parts I've restored, including the engine compartment, and have been extremely happy with it. It's a daily driver so having the "exact" type paint isn't a concern of mine. Just wondering what the difference is, whether one has better adhesion or is a tougher paint?
