66 running problem

My 66 mustang is not running i have a straight six. The problems i am haveing is my carburator is bad this is the third carb i have gone through in the past 3 to 4 months is this a usual thing or what. My car does not seem to want to idle whenever i start it i have to press the gas pedal in and hold it in to get it to stay running and after i take my foot off of the pedal it slowly goes back down to idle and dies like it is low on gas but we filled it up we also made sure the fuel lines were clear all the way to the carb. also we took the carb apart and check the float and try to see what the problem could be but it was clean around the float. i have already try to idle it up but it was no use. is it the carb or somthing else. if it is the carb where do i need to look in the carb t ofix it. and if it is somewhere else please explain how i can fix itin full detail. please help.

Thank You

Sounds like a timming issue. Have u checked that yet? OR how about your fuel pump? Fuel filter?

Yup

Yup, I would check the fuel pessure near the carb. It needs to be 4-5 psi, especially when warming up with the choke on when lots of gas is needed. If, low, (3 psi or so), then a new fuel pump and filter are needed.
