'67 GT500

Does anyone know what engine came in the '67 Shelby GT500? I know that the 428cj was in the later years, but what was in the '67?

I believe it was a 429

I think only 428 FE motors in the 67 & 68 GT500's. No CJs in these cars.

67's had a 428. Not a CJ though. That came out in 68 with the ram air.

The 67 and 68 GT 500's were equipped with the 428 PI (Police Interceptor) engine. It was rated at 360 hp. (note cj was "rated" at 335) The switch to 428 CJ came mid 68 and these cars are denoted as GT 500 KR. In 69 the KR was dropped but the 428 CJ remained. All 70's were 69's that didn't sell, were given stripes on the hood and chin spoilers.

428 police interceptors were the motivation in these cars....although I've heard rumors that a few 427's were installed, but I wonder how believable that is....and doubt more than a couple would have been built. I know the Super Snake was one of them (blown 427).
