Default 67' rear end question

hi,
i am building up a 67' coupe, that came stock with an inline six. i will be done sometime soon with the build up of a 351w engine for it, im guess top hp will be about 370 at the very most. i will be using a tremec tko500. i was wondering if an 8.8" posi rear end out of a newer gt (foxbody) would be ok? also would i be better off switching the mounting components on the axle to accept leaf springs or fabricating a set up for rear coil springs?
thanks for any help,
carl

Much easier to just put in a Ford 9" with an Auburn Pro limited slip carrier. You can get that at Currie in Ca. with any gear ratio that you might want. You can't beat it for strength and installation will require no fabrication.

Agree with Rev, much easier to just install a 9 inch.

You'll never have to worry if it will hold up to the HP you're putting through it. Cause it will !!!!

thanks for the input,
are there any years that come with positraction, or is it strictly aftermarket for that?
thanks,
carl

From what i hear, the 8.8 works, but is a bit wide. (if you live in Tennessee, GOPHER IT!! sorry) You would have to weld on the mounts that connect to the leaf spring to the axle tube. Then, you still have the spots that the old coil springs connected to, which cause clearance issues with your exhaust. SOURCE: Mustang and Fords magazine (I read about it a couple times in their magazine from readers sending in letters.)

Positraction or Trac Lok can be on darn near any 9" rear. It was an option. You can add it, or have it added. Either Ford or aftermarket.

I had the Ford Traction-Lock in my 8". I got tired of rebuilding with new clutches every couple of years. Thats when I went to the Auburn Pro. My car has only 335-350 hp and a C-4. The Auburn Pro has held up well and I'm extremely pleased with it.
