Post Can a 93 Reverse Rotation Water Pump work on a '69 351W??

I'm new to this area of the site and am having a cooling problem on my '69 351 block. I pulled this motor out of a '69 Cougar and it took 9 months to build. I was told by Ford Motorsports tech. that a reverse rotation pump would work on the '69 block but I keep having cooling problems on a fresh rebuild. Thanks.

You're right the pump "will work", but you have to turn it in "reverse". The rotation is backward to the V-belt drive pump that the '69 had. If you change the '69 to a serpentine belt with reverse rotation of the water pump you would be OK.

Great! So I can eliminate that off one of my potential problems list. I do have the correct serpentine setup but for a 93 5.0 I WAS using a underdrive pulley set that reduced my cooling by 20%. Another waste of money if you ask me. My engine was jumping up to 230 degrees in traffic and under 1500 rpm's, so we started troubleshooting and thought the old block and new pump was the problem. Thanks a lot. I appreciate it.
