Default Torque boxes... what and where are they?

title says it all. Are they the things the rear LCA bolts to (the bolt towards the front of the car on the LCA, that is)?

Yes, the "torque boxes" are the points on the chassis where the rear lower controls arms attach. There are kits available to reinforce them (If you don't have the basic fabrication skills to make them yourself).
