71 mustang auto trans not working
 

i recently built my first motor and the motor runs strong but the automatic trans won't shift i've only driven it once because i'm waiting on a part for the carb to hook up the kick down rod on the trans i just wanted to know if the trans is not shifting because the kick down rod is not hooked up or should i be looking for a new trans. i dodn't have anything to go by because the car wasn't running before i put the motor in let me know

Two Questions:

1. What type of motor and trans do you have?
2. What is the trans dooing specificaly?

Answer those and I will see if I can help but I dont think not having the kickdown hooked up would affect the trans too much.

Did you hook up the vacuum line to the modulator? Also have you taken the trans pan off? The kickdown lever should not make your transmission not shift unless maybe you have it tied up and it is pushing the kickdown lever on the side of the transmission. LaTeR....GrAbBeR
