Default 8.8 rearend into 65?

I've got an 65 289 mustang with an 8 inch rear end with street gears. I do too much highway driving and need to change the gears. I have a buddy that has a 85 mustang with an 8.8 2.73 gear set up. Will this rear end bolt up into my car.
I appreciate the help. Thanks

not without alot of work, coil spring to leaf spring, driveshaft length..diff u-joint... and his will be a 4-bolt lug pattern,,,
just get a 8in 3rd member..cheap in a junk yard...takes less than 30 mins to swap it in..piece of cake

Most 8" rear ends came with freeways gears, 2.80 being the most common. You shouldn't have any problems finding one.

And the installation is a lot easier than putting a 8.8" housing in :-)

They are right, just swap the 3rd members. It is a piece of cake. I have one with a 300:1 ratio, if you are interested...
