The figure I have seen is around 250hp. Of course I am sure this driver dependent as well.

As for me, the next motor should make a touch over 550 horse on the spray, an 8 inch won't live through that <grin> ------------------ Marcus 68 Mustang giggling 351C coming soon |

I have a Currie built 8" in my '66 and it's worked well for several years. My 306 developes 300@5100 and 350@3750. This with a C-4. Auto trannys are easier on rear ends than standard trannies usually, if the stall is reasonable and with sreet tires. If the 5.0 is stock or mildly modded, you've got no worries if the 8"is in good shape. Well, i've got an E-303, ported/polished 289 heads, full roller rockers, but a stock intake. I doubt i'll be doing many drag launches, but do you guys think it'll hold up? I also won't be using slicks either.

5-speed or AOD? Either way, it should be O.K.

You should fine, with an auto, it will absorb most of the shock that would kill the rear end, with a stick and any serious power, you will blow away tires. With out drag radials or slick, I wouldn't even sweat it. even with thme, I wouldn't torry too much...

I have to agree....unless you bolt on slicks and drop the hammer on it, the good ol 8" will hold up fine. I've had several that have taken a great deal of abuse on the street and never had a failure. You'll lose traction before you can put a hurt on it.

I've got an 8" un my 67 coupe I've ran 13.02 at 104.5 with a set of et streets on mine. On a website called http://fordmuscle.com
they have a 67 coupe that was running 12.20's with a 5 speed, slicks, and 5000rpm launches and theirs finally broke an axle. They replaced the broken axle and have ran an 11.9? something with it. ------------------ 91LX bbk shorties, bbk off-road pipe and 67 Coupe, 302, with TFS heads,13.21@ 104 on street tires |
