I don't think anything with an 8" had traction lok.... I think the early shelby's all had 9"... I have clue about a K-code engine though... Did they run an open rear? or some locker of sorts?

There are vehicles out there that came with an 8 inch traction lock. I can not remember which ones they are. I decided when I had this problem about 2 summers ago to go with a new rebuilt unit. Very nice, after ups showed up with it, had it in in about 30 min. and out on the road.
Do not quote me, but did't shelby's come with A 9 inch and a detroit locker?

Was the rebuilt unit expensive? Where can I get one?

If I can find a cheapie out a boneyard, that'll hold me over until I find that elusive Versailles rear end...Or I'll just keep the 8" and add disc brakes.

I've read that the Versailles rear is alot heavier than the 8".

If you are looking for nice stuff, Currie Enterprises is it. You can send for a catalog and it has everything. They even can hook you up with a 8" locker w/ disc brakes. If you are interested I can get the address for you. They advertise in many car mags. Let me know. It may be worth a look.

Auburn Gear offers a version of their Auburn Pro differential for the 8" rear. It's designed for use with 28 spline axles.

I got mine from Currie a couple of years ago and couldn't be happier. 8" 3.25 Traction-Lock with a special billet part for extra strength. Also got an installation kit including new nuts, washers, gasket, and posi gear oil shipped to my door in Houston. Cost was total of $640 though. He has any gear ratio you might want. A really good outfit in my opinion, but a bit expensive.

Cool

If rear discs are what you need...
I think 1975-77 Granada's and Monarchs were available with 9" Disc units.
Why not opt for the 9"??

I had the same problem and decided to go to a 9 inch from a 58 Galaxy. Ford trucks and many Econline vans had good gear ratios with limited slip. I bought my 3.25 Limited Slip from a metal recycling yard who had the van for 15 bucks!!!!!
