9" Gear Setup

I am installing a set of used Ford 3:70 gears in my 67 fastback that has a 9" rear. I need to know how to set the pininon bearing pre-load, what kind of loctite threadlocker to use (blue, red, or green) and can the backlash be set without the use of a dial indicator gauge? I can't seem to find one to borrow/rent in this tiny town. I have not ever done this before but am trying to accomplish this without taking the pumkin to a shop to have them finish the set up. Thanks in advance for the help.

You don't need an indicator to set up a 8 or 9" Ford.

You do need a big torque wrencht o make sure minimum pinion nut torque is reached before preload ( top of head figure is 8~ inch lb preload and 150+ nut torque )achieced, and patterning dye.

Compared to an integral carrier a 8 or 9" rear is a cake walk.
