Default 9" rear end...

hi,
i finally found a 9" rear end for my 67' mustang and have some questions since it is out of a ford pick up. i know that it needs to be shortened, but does anyone know exactly what length it needs to be to accept stock or aftermarket axleshafts. and where would it need to be cut on the tubing if i were going try and use the stock brake setup (or are the drums too big for car wheels?). there is a 9" rear end at my school that is being rebuilt, should i just take measurements from that?
thanks for the help,
carl
