![]() a friend of mine said that he had some glasspacks laying around somewhere and he said he would look for them for me. i was wondering.... iv heard that glasspacks cause you to lose power. im assuming they are very restrictive and create a lot of backpressure. but i still think that whey would be fun to have for cruse nights. are glasspacks louder then 1 chamber flowmasters? what would you compare them to sounding like. How much are these worth? Im thinking of building and exhause system for these. just the 3 bolt collector piece that bolts to the headers and then to a 2 or 3 foot pipe then the glasspacks this way i can switch back and forth easily. thanks in advance.

![]() well I am no expert but what I have heard is that glass packs dont make you loose HP. but it doesn't give you any eatheir.
but it would deffinitly be fun for cruise nights. I am going to switch to glass packs as soon as I get my V8. but again dont quote me on this. ford kid |

![]() glasspacks are probably less restrictive then most conventional mufflers. All they are is just a spiral tube basically. At idle its quieter than open headers but is still very loud, big rumble.
When you rev it up in neutral, they sound like open headers, thats probably the best thing for cruise nights right there. But in gear, taking off full throttle, or doing a long burnout at one constant rpm, it can be the most annoying thing you have ever heard. Very very loud inside the car, especially when it comes straight from the headers. at one constant rpm not changing, when the motor is working the sound can be compared to an Extremely loud fart noise... gives you a headache after a while. Well me anyways. I have never heard 1 chamber flowmasters, i will look into that. But i say stick with conventional mufflers, and just run open headers when u want to be loud, or cutouts. Glasspacks can also get u in trouble in normal everyday driving, depending on where u live. I think what makes the glasspacks annoying is that they separate the exhaust gasses into "putts", the airflow sound is much less smooth. It makes it noisy, but some people like it some people dont. I for one like it , but burnout will give ya headaches with them. Hope this helps. Oh and one more thing, i hear that "purple hornies" are really good glasspacks, opposed to cherry bombs.. but im not sure. goodluck.

![]() well A stang(65 or 66) just went down my street about A half an hour ago. it had glass packs on it for sure. and I heard him all the way down the street.(but he really got on it) my street is about 4 or 5 blocks long.
but I must add I loved the sound. fordkid |

![]() If you want something that sounds nasty get some magnaflows, or ultraflows. They aren't that loud at idle, but man its a sweet sound under load.

![]() wow i didnt think that that many people would reply. thanks guys. are all glasspacks bolt on or do some of them have to be welded to a pipe? i wanted to build a new exhaust for the glasspacks from the collectors back so i can switch back to my 2chamber flowmasters at any time.

The weight of the glasspacks will be pulling on the headers, and over bumps they will pull harder, maybe even scrape the ground if they are low enough. Make sure u tighten the bolts down plenty. ![]() Very loud and harsh. They have no restrictions though. Straight through.
They get louder as you use them. The "glass" burns and blows out of them. Very annoying at a steady rpm cruise on the highway. Plus side....they are cheap to purchase.

![]() I have full length headers with 1-5/8" primaries with a 2-1/2" H-pipe with glasspacks in front of the axle then 2-1/2" tail pipes exitting out the back of the car. At idle, it's actually fairly quiet. It's a very deep and mellow tone; under hard acceleration it's gets pretty loud, but not obnoxiously so. I have the Thrush glasspacks from Summit that costed about $15 each. Very cheap, fairly free flowing, and great sound quality. I don't have much of a drone at all. If you just have full length headers with glasspacks bolted to the collecters and no tailpipes, it would be very loud and very annoying. I wouldn't recommend doing that.

![]() When I first got my glasspacks, they too were quiet. But after having them on for a year, they got to be very loud! The rumble from my car could be heard for blocks at idle. I could turn anyones head when just slowly driving by. My car was the loudest on base. There is next to no back pressure with them. All they are is one big pipe with baffels around it. U can see straight through them, so u can just imagine what the exhaust does. When running glasspacks and pipes on the end, u get the crackle noise when u rev, or take off quick, without pipes, they are really loud, rumble noise.

![]() I've had my glasspacks for a little over three years now....a little bit of difference, but nothing too major. They sound mean as hell with tailpipes. If you don't have tailpipes, they are loud, obnoxious, and just don't sound that mean. Go with a good muffler like deuce said if you're not going to put a full exhaust on it.

![]() You probally want to keep in mind that to legally pass the decible test your going to have to put 30+ inche glasspacks on the car, they are the best bet if your going for the most power because its the closest you can get to a straight pipe, but anyway if you want a loud impressive sound on a daily driver you could consider putting cut outs on the car and run some kind of remote on it, iv heard of people using R/C Car Servos for doing this, but anyway i agree with 6T9PONY go with full exhaust with packs. my .02

![]() i had some 18 in glasspacks on my 69 when i was 16 and i thought they were great but then i met this guy who owned a muffler shop and had some 2 chamber flows in the back and he said try them and if you dont like them ill put the glasspacks back on. my 2 chamber flows are louder at idle than my glasspacks and sound a hell of alot better. I will never go back to glasspacks and my flows make alot more power than those glasspacks.
