When I first got my mustang running the amp gauge would flutter rapidly between the center line then it stopped all together. When it stopped I could not tell you but I have changed the harness for the starter selinod and the selinod itself and the voltage regulator. As far as I have gone is checking the back of the gauge to see if the connections are on. I have have read other post about a voltage reg. on the gauge panel. Didn't know if this had one or not, I dont even know where it is wired to. All the other gauges work fine.

The instrument voltage regulator doesn't have anything to do with amp meter.

You probably fixed it when you changed the voltage regulator. Do you still use the old points type regulator or solid state?? |

You can try wiring it directly to see if it's a guage problem or a wiring problem. One side of the guage goes to the battery side of the starter solenoid and the other side of the guage goes to the BAT post on the back of the alternator.
