Default Brake Problems

I have been having a lot of problems with my front brakes locking up when I jam on them. I changed pads recently, and I checked the back pads and I had NO OR VERY LITTLE WEAR ON THEM. I wanted to know if there is a proportioning valve in the system that may have went to sh*t or something. If not, how do I put in a proportioning valve and where/ what kind do I use? Install info?
HELP!!!! I am tired of do the "white knuckle dance" every time I hit the brakes.
Thanks,
Brad

if its you front breaks that are locking up then it most likely is the metering valve

the valve is on the front of the brake booster, i took mine to someone that knew what they were dooing cause i didnt want to strip out the brass line. If its your back wheels locking up it could be a wheel cylender leaking. what year car do you have? my proportioning valve went out and it would spray fluid out the rubber seal on the front.

thanks, I have a '91 GT and it is the front brakes that are locking up and the back ones aren't grabbing at all. That's fine for brake torques but it sucks in the winter on ice or snow!!! I'll check out what my local ford garage has to say about a replacement and post again if it had any results.
Later,
Brad
