A/C Conversion - R12 to R134
Now that I found this site, I'm asking all of my questions....
Anyone have any luck converting the old A/C systems from R12 to R134? I've heard "don't even think about it" to "no problem, just make sure you've flushed out the system real well" My A/C worked last year according to the previous owners. I have found where it leaked from the connection to the receiver/condenser, so I just need to check the fitting and recharge. Let me know. ------------------ Allan Munsie 64 1/2 Convertible D Code 289 PB, PS, PT, AC |
I have never seen a good switch over. I know I hear all the stories too. But, I do have a repair shop here in Florida. And i don't see good long lasting coversions.
I have seen some gases that will fit in instead of R 12 that aren't 134. I'm sorry I can't remember the name. But it is prices reasonable and works much BETTER then R134 put in a R-12 unit. If you email me I will get the name, etc. |
Car Craft September issue has a how to on page 106.

Brock,
Believe me when I tell you that here in FL it has to be an 11 on a scale of 1 to 10. That's why the AutoFrost [blend] works so well. |
Thanks, guys. I'll tell my mechanic (he only does the hard stuff for me) about this and get a re-charge next spring. I'm in the Chicago area and I'm about to put the car to sleep for the winter anyway.
