C3AE-F Heads

I have a set of these heads. They say 289 on them also. Are these 1963 289ci heads? If so, is the combustion chamber size 54.5cc?

Thanks in advance,

John

At first I figured the C3 casting would be a 260 head, but if they have 289 stamped on them, then their 289 heads, and I would ASSUME they have 54cc chambers. I know that some of the earlier cars (before 65) had even smaller chambers than this, but I think they were HiPO heads.

If no one here can give you a definate answer, try posting over at vintage-mustang.com. They have lots of people who are very good sources of early Mustang info...especially the stock stuff. A couple of regulars are MCA judges and really know their cars. If they don't know it, they can sure find out. Are you planning on using these heads on 5.0?

Thanks for the info.

I already had them on my 93 5.0L, but took them off to have them done correctly. When they machined them to put the 1.94"/1.60" valves in, they didn't port AT ALL under the seat! Might as well have left the smaller valves in.

But anyways, thanks for the info!

The chamber size of your head is between 52-55cc. Valve size is 1.78 intake, 1.45 exhaust. You rport sizes are 1.94 x 1.04 intake and 1.24 x 1.00 exhaust

Thanks Kevin! The heads now have 1.94"/1.60" valves installed. Except one thing, they didn't do any porting under the seats!! They cut the bigger valves in and the holes underneath are still factory size!! What a job huh?

Thanks again,

John

Yeah, my old 66 heads were done the same way. Seems like a waste of time if you don't recontour the throats. We tried to touch touch them up, and they were better than stock. Still, I eventually got some Windsor Jr.'s and they totally rock. Stomp the old heads with the big valves all through the rpm range.
