![]() You can put a T-5, Tremec 3550, AOD behind a 250, 289, 302, 351, etc..
You can put a T-5 or Tremec behind a '67 and newer 200 You can put a T-5 or Tremec behind a '66 200 using the '67 and later bell/clutch parts. You can put a T-5 behind a '65 and older 200, 170, 144 using the adapter plate from Mustang's and more. You can put a Tremec behind a '65 and older 200, 170, 144 using some parts I have available for sale. Currently, you can not put an AOD behind a 144, 170, 200 yet. However, I will have a way to do it soon. Al |

![]() Of course it can be done. Good luck finding everthing you'll need at a junk yard. Some fabrication must be done. It's not for the weak of heart to do unless they buy everything new.

![]() Try www.windsor-fox.com
Keep in mind the the AOD gives you the overdrive, but it's not a real perfromance transmission. It's much more efficient transmission because of it's because of the lockup strategy. There are two input shafts in an AOD tranny. One is hooked to the turbine, the other is direct drive. In third gear the torque converter provides 67% of its power thru the direct drive shaft. In forth gear, it is 100% direct to the overdrive gearset so there are no pumping losses thru the converter. It's a great tranny for mileage, but that direct drive strategy makes it tough to configure as a performance transmission. When you shift gears in a manual tranny, you slip the clutch slightly to get a smooth shift. The AOD does the same. If you set the 4th gear band to shift harder, you get this terrible clunk, like you would get if you just dumped the clutch on a shift because you are in direct overdrive. So you have to walk a fine line between shifts that are hard and harsh and harsh or the soft, smooth, slippery way they are set up for at the factory. They don't call them slushboxes for nothing! - Some of the above text was borrowed from Jack Collins Al ------------------ [This message has been edited by amartin725 (edited 07-12-2001).] |

![]() I changed the C-4 from my 289, 68 FB to an AOD. Not all that hard.
Here's the list... 1. Driveshaft needs to be shortned alittle. 2. Different flexplate 3. Get Windsor-Fox crossmember. Makes the job alot easier. 4. Fabricate a rod to make the floor shift work, or buy it from Windso-Fox too. 5. Get the Art Carr one piece input shaft and have it installed. Takes the lockup out, you still have OD. Trans shifts much better under power. 6. Change the convertor too. 7. Baumann shift kit. 8. 2 inch OD band 9. Wide ratio gear set 10. Diode sprag 11. Get list of Ford part # off the Baumann site for the TV cable and such. 12. Make certain that trans has shift lever pointing up. 13. Only real pains were..[1] Exhaust headers clearing the pan of the trans. [2] Hooking up cable to carb. It isn't as hard as it looks, but you HAVE to have TV cable or trans will burn up. 14. Fabricate cooler lines. Mine shifts great and with the stall convertor comes off the start like a rocket. It is street driven, not raced. The OD helps lots when you're driving to a show or cruise. |
