Default C6 In 65 Mustang

Planning on putting a C6 in a 65 mustang with a 289 and headman headers, reason being it was practically given to me and in good shape, Question: will it fit, and if not what changes will need to be made, is there any info on this swap, cant seem to find any at all.....thanks in advance

From what I understand if it is correct. The C-6 will fit without any changes except for the spacing plate and maybe the starter. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Here is a breakdown of the Ford Transmissions...I would probably see if I could trade someone for a C4. The C6 was really designed for the big torque big blocks, and outweighs the C4 by about 25-30 pounds.

Sell it if you can and find a c4. That c6 will eat up so much power, it'll make your 289 feel like a 6 banger.

i am in the final stages of restoring a 1965 gt and have been told by very knowledgable restorer that a c6 does not fit inside the tunnel or line up with existing crossmembers also the physical size of the c6 requires modification of length of driveshaft. so i dont care how cheap the c6 is find a c4 to save money and frustration it is not an easy swap. although contrary to what some said the transmission will bolt up to a small block

Due to larger and heavier internal components, the rule of thumb I've heard is that a similarly built C6 requires an additional 20-25% horsepower to spin over a C4, which equates to around a 10-15% hp difference at the rear wheels. I haven't done any testing personally, but if you go to mustangsandmore.com and ask Alex (aka Moneymaker -- SS NHRA nat'l record holder), he says a C4 is generally worth around .3 in the 1/4 over a C6. I'm a 4 speed guy myself, but everyone I've talked to says a C6 is only beneficial if a C4 will not handle the power produced, which will not be the case on a 289.
