Question Can I put a 428CJ in a 69 Grande???

If so , how much would it cost. If not , then whats the biggest engine I could slam into it?

Yes you can. 69 an 70's body styles Came from the factory with 428's. I Don't know what all will be involved. I know it is a tight fit but not impossible. Big block trany and maybe special exhaust manifolds. My understanding was that the ac was not an option with the 428 but was available on the 390 so if you want ac locate the components like brackets etc. from a 390 car. Will need more research but it can be done.

As a fellow 69 grande owner, I also looked into this. With some work, a 460 or 460 based stroker can also work if you want some serious cubes. And a 428 will work with headers, by the way. A big block in a 69 bay would definately not be fun to work on, but it would be great to drive. I'm relatively new here, so I don't know if this is a big no no, but over at www.mustangsandmore.com there are tons of classics guys that would love to help you out with whatever you decided to do.

Back when I started as moderator here at the MUSTANGWORKS I used to send all the tough technical questions over to Moneymaker, (the classics forum moderator at Mustangs and More). You can beat all his experience with racing classic mustangs.

Now we have some serious wrench turners frequenting the message boards here at the MUSTANGWORKS! So I don't have to "farm out" many question anymore. But you can never get to much advice

Yeah, ole Alex over there really knows his stuff. He seems to know more about clevelands than anyone else I have talked to, which is good for me. Of course, if your cam doesnt have .700 lift, it's too small.

The hardest part may be finding a 428 CJ that's rebuildable and possibly the $$$ to get it. Not to discourage, but 428 CJ's are collectors items in themselves. How about a 351W stroked to 427? Would bolt right in with plenty of room. Lots of after market stuff readily available. Just another alternative.

I agree with Rev. Why not get a 351W and stroke it to 426-427???? Lots more room and lighter too. I am putting a 426 together now for my 68 FB. I had a 428CJ 1968. It was tight and hard to get to anything. The Windsor seems to be the better way. Cheaper too. 428CJ stuff is demanding large money now. I just sold a motor.

Maybe i should sell all the extra parts i have if the go for big money i got lots of cj parts laying around. It must be the orginal parts that cost all this money because I have bought tons of aftermakert parts for mine and they cost the same price as they would for any other car.
