Default Chokes

I've got a 68 that was a bit of a basket case I'm putting together and I've got some choke questions. The original carb is long gone but I've got a 2bbl Holley for it with a bi-metal type of choke. The kind that has to be heated from the exhaust. Not electric.

No provision on the current exhaust manifold for anything like that tho. I do have one out back that MAY have had a tube for heating the choke, but the tube's broke! LOL!

I'm not sure if that's what the tube was for anyway tho because I thought the exhaust had to routed directly to the choke. The broken tube in this manifold isn't directly connected to the fire. It's just runs off of a lump on the side of the manifold that would eventually get hot, but maybe not fast enough. I dunno.

So what kind of choke did the have stock 2bbl have? Does anybody know if I'm supposed to route straight exhaust to a bi-metal choke, or should I just use the manifold for a heat source?
