Cleaning the gas tank
Hi,
I just bought a 1969 Mustang. The guy I bought the car from had a jug of gas in front of the radiator to start the car because the fuel in the gas tank was old, stale, and dirty. The tank looks fine but the gas cap wasn't on tight so there is probably quite a bit of dirt in the tank. Other than draining the old fuel, how can I clean all the crap out of it? Thanks. |
If the fuel is that dirty, I would be looking for a NEW fuel tank. One without dirt [rust].

To do it right you not only have to clean all of the old crap out, you have to seal or rust coat it after you're done. Sealing is not fun and doesn't work that well, you get it from jc whitney. It is easier and less troublesome to get a new one.

I'm in agreement with everyone else. Get a new tank and a new fuel line also. You won't want fuel problems when you get it all together. Not really all that expensive either in the grand scheme of things.
