Post firing order

I got a very slightly used ford crate motor from a shop that had a mechanics lean on a car that no one paid for. They told me it was a 302. This passed weekend I did something stupid and had to buy a Haynes manual to get the firing order and put the plug wires back on the distributor. In doing so I realized that according to the 64 1/2 to 73 haynes book...the driver's side spark plug wires were arranged to the 351W firing order. So I put the passenger side wires on according that order and fired it right up and was on the road. Is it possible the motor is a 351W. I didn't think my old carb, intake, etc. would work if it was. How do I tell.

David,
If you installed a 302 intake rest assured this is not a 351W. The deck height would not allow the difference.
The reason for the changed firing order could be a 351W cam, these are interchangeable as long as the firing order is changed.

Clark is right, my 351W uses the 289 firing order because of the cam.

Cool

ford switched the 302 to the 351w firing order in the late 70's, early 80's.. all the crate motors use the 351w firing order
