![]() Just recently, i've been having probles with my car idleing. I pull up to a light, or just stop, and the car keeps surging. Well, today, I got a chance to take off the air cleaner when it was doing it. I saw something bad. My secondaries were driping with fuel, but the valves were closed. I manualy opened the secondaries then let them close, it stopped dripping. It also idled fine then. Why is my carb doing this. I replced a blown power valve to days ago, and this is when it started. It this connected?

![]() sounds like a leaking gasket to me. i had the same problem before and bought a rebuild kit for my car and that seemed to fix it. my carb had other problems so i ended up getting a new one but after the new gaskets it didnt surge anymore.

![]() Is it a Holley??
Also, check: 1. Float level--too high will cause leakage 2. Fuel pressure--too high will cause leakeage 3. Needle and seat on secondaries--bad or worn one will leak All of these are very easy to check. Let us know what you find...

I got your message, but didn't have a number to call you at. Since the problem isn't occuring at the primaries, I doubt it's pressure related. It sounds like a textbook example of having the float adjusted wrong for the secondaries. If adjusting it doesn't work, then remove the needle and seat and inspect the O-ring for nicks or tears. Replace as needed. Odds are you just need to lower your float in the secondaries: 1) Remove the secondary sight plug in the side of the secondary bowl. Fuel will spill out, so have towels ready. 2) Back off the large flathead, adjusting nut lock-screw on top of the bowl, and turn the 5/8" nut underneath it clockwise 3 complete turns. 3) Tighten the lock-screw. 4) Start the engine, and see if fuel starts to flow out of the sight plug hole. If it does, go back to step 2 and repeat. If it doesn't, losen the lock-screw, and turn the 5/8" nut underneath it slowly until the fuel just barely starts to trickle out of the hole. 5) Tighten the lock-screw. 6) Shut off the engine. 7) Replace the sight plug, making sure the gasket is still in place. 8) Soak up any spilled gasoline. 9) Fire the engine, and verify that the problem has gone away. Note: Be forewarned that anytime you losen the lock-screw while the engine is running, fuel will spray out from underneath it. This is normal. Take care, -Chris

![]() i have to agree...i think its a float problem too. Let us know what it was when you figure it out. Comes in handy to know these problem solution things.

![]() Sorry, I forgot to look for the sight plug, but I backed off the screw a half turn, I forgot to look here before I did it. But it hasn't seemed to do it again, might just be the coil is burning up the extra gas. It only did it after I ran it hard. I'll try it out soon. But it hasn't been doing it yet.
