clutch
 

i was wondering if when u let out off the clutch and ur car starts to shake a bit well alot does that mean that the clutch is going out??
if so is there some way i can adjust or fix the prob. without getting a new one??
please let me know?
its on a 65 3 speed

need more info. when do you let off the clutch, in neutral or in gear? does it always do it, or just at certain rpm's?

Well, when mine did it, it was right before it blew up. All the clutch material came off.

U can try this, put it in the top gear, put your engine at about 2,500 RPM, then slowly let your clutch out. This will burn off the roughness(bumping) in your clutch. But yes, it probaly is going out.

Your description is typical of an overheated flywheel, usually caused by riding the clutch. A glaze develops on the flywheel surface, and when the pedal is released, and the clutch applied, the clutch and flywheel surfaces act more like rubber than like the materials they are. This is one of the reasons why it's so important to have the flywheel surfaced, or at least have it's face dressed with a light sanding disc, when replacing the clutch. A temporary fix can sometimes be made by dumping the clutch hard several times. This should only be attempted in a large, vacant parking lot. Rev it to 3000 rpm's or more, and dump the clutch. Do this several times. This will help break-up the glaze, if it's not too severe. If it doesn't help, replacing the clutch, and having the flywheel machined, may be your only solution.

its always in first -- im sitting at the light at 1000 rpm and i slowly let out the clutch and it starts to shake sometimes violently and sometimes just alittle but it only happens after running the car for a bit like on the freeway going like 100 -110 or so after the engine is HOT

PKRWUD-- WELL WHEN I 1ST GOT THE CAR I WOULD DUMP the clutch alot now i dont do it i just wait till it goes then gas it

mustangman--2500!!!??? man, will it stop the shaking of the car completly??? how much would it cost to replace the needed parts?

I used to have a similar problem of rear wheels hopping under any type of acceleration due to springs wrapping. These old light weight leaf spring cars are known for that. I fixed my problem by getting the 5 leaf springs and fabricating some traction bars out of heavy duty toplinks that are adjustable so I can "tune" the rear suspension with two cresent wrenchs. But from reading your reply about dumping your clutch frequently it may be going out, almost guaranteed if it is still the stock clutch.

PKRWUD, dumping the cluth never helped it with me, just seemed to make it worse. When I did it the way I said above, It got rid of it completly. It never again did it. I think it's because it gets hot and warps. When it warps, it makes waves in the clutch material. Putting it in the highest gear, and smoking the clutch was the only way I found to fix this "wave" in the clutch.

Do u understand ponyexpress289. I did this till either I saw smoke, or smelled it. It stinks, so u will know when. But remember, this burns off your clutch, so u will have to buy a new one faster.
