Coil Color
I have a neighbor who has a 65 standard coupe (with a July 64 build date if it matters) with the 289 4v. He is now evaluating his engine bay to see where to begin detailing and had a question about the coil. His coil is painted the same blue as the valve covers. Is this correct on a 65? My 66's correct coil is the mustard top with black body version. Is his suppposed to be the same as that or is it blue with the mustard top? Any help would be appreciated. I hope I have provided enough info and appreciate any input.

Stefan,
I have never seen a stock blue one, they have always been black. Maybe someone wanted to match the paint on the valve covers? ------------------ 69 351W Sportsroof deluxe |

Clark,
That's kind of what I figure, but I thought i'd ask anyway. I never bought any resto books as my original plans for a ground up councours resto quickly turned into a restomod project. My 66 is an ungaraged daily driver so concours isn't really the way to go. Before I came to that conclusion I had already started buying "correct parts" that included a mustard top coil. I can't use it so I figured I'd be neighborly and give it to my neighbor for his 65. Any other input is welcome to confirm what Clark and I think is right on the color. Thanks guys. I'm with you'all. My '66 289 coil was black. My New Mallory is red, LOL.

Before I put in the mallory unilite, I had a blue coil that matched the ford blue of the engine. It was a Standard Ignition Products X series coil. Supposed to be a little better than stock. Maybe you should swap.
