Question consecutive unit number

I own a '65 Mustang that I plan to restore. It has a289 2V, three speed manual, pony interior, and factory air and poer steering. I decode my V.I.N. tag easily enough, howver, I am curious about my consecutive unit number. It begins with an eight. This seems unusually high. Is this somehing that could occur normally on the assembly line, or is this something special?

Hiya,
Well as i recall (and i may be recalling wrongly here!)
the new fords actually started their numbers at 10,000 instead of say 1!
I'm not sure why. My 'stang is a '68 and she is number 70705.
Hope this helps.

The numbers sterted out at 10001, the Mustang was built on the same assembly line next to the Falcon in the early years so a Falcon may have 10007 an a Mustang 10008 ,10009 ,10010;Falcon 10011 , Mustang 10012 and so on.
Look at the date on the warranty plate it may give you some idea . . Mine is 05S( may 5th 1965)

Thank you induction, but i have already read this info. in books. If you know of any other stats that may apply, please let me know. By the way, my car was assembled in dearborn, Mich. on July 30, 1965. Maybe this can shed some light on the matter.
