Question consecutive unit number

I own a '65 Mustang that I plan to restore. It has a289 2V, three speed manual, pony interior, and factory air and poer steering. I decode my V.I.N. tag easily enough, howver, I am curious about my consecutive unit number. It begins with an eight. This seems unusually high. Is this somehing that could occur normally on the assembly line, or is this something special?
