Currie 8.8 rearend
Hi guys I just got a 69 coupe I am gonna hop up a little and I was pretty interested in getting a Currie 8.8 rearend, I know they are pretty pricey but the Magazine I read always have good things to say about them... Just wanted to know what you think about Currie, and would I be better off just getting a good Ol Eaton.
Thanks, Karen |
Grab a 9" locker.

Hey Deuce what is going to be the difference in a 8.8" and a 9"? You never said what you thought of Currie either!
Thanks, Karen;) |
Go with the 9 inch rear end. It can handle what ever amount of horsepower and tirque you throw at it. It's practially indestructable! Not only that but it costs a hell of a lot less (about $300.00)

Curry 8" is great for up to ~350 hp. I like my curry and have only heard good things from others. Pretty sure a '69 would need an 8", the 8.8" are for the newer mustangs. 9" are strong, but weigh a lot more than the 8". Which one you pick (8 or 9), depends on your hp target range.

Ok yah I got it now 8.8 is what I want on my 99 and a 9" for my 69 I am probably gonna want more than 350hp sooo I guess I will get the 9 thanks for all your help guys and yes I am still learning!!!
:p Thanks again, Karen |
Currie
BTW, Currie is good but not cheap. I have their 8", but with 350 HP or more, I would go for a 9". What's in it now?

Okay this is strange I pulled the rearend out with some friends and it has a 8.8" on it !!!!!!! ummmmm so who knows what else I am gonna find weird on this car.... I am gettin a 9" after talking to some people they said just to get a eaton and not the currie cheaper and just as good!
Thanks for all your help guys, Karen |
8.8?
You mean 8.8 is stamped on the tag? or it has a 8.8 diff in the car? To be honest I never heard of any one doing this swap before, the 9 works too well to mess with a 8.8. I believe the first 8.8 was made for trucks around 1985. So if DOES have the newer 8.8 in it, it is NOT stock. But if it does have it, for some strange reason, keep it. It should handle about 400hp with the right mods.
