Damn that was fun!!!

Well in the last two weekends I have managed to replace both motor mounts, my tranny mount, all rubber associated with the hydraulic pump for PS, emergency brake cable, speedometer cable, Dash lights, Driver door lock retainer clip, New grommets for clutch and throttle (my feet were getting hot), light for rear license plate (I guess its the law), Installed Ganno filter and 160 thermostat (That really did the trick), Adjusted timing (distributor bolt was loose) Adjusted clutch pedal, Flushed radiator (lots of rust), Installed over sized oil drain plug (old one leaked), Purchased NOS floor mats, Fixed wiring for High beams, A/C, Radio and floor lights (pain in the a$$), Removed driver seat leg room extension plate (had to dig up some seat rails from the junk yard) Installed new front window rail (driver front was broken) Adjusted windows so they properly sealed, etc. etc. etc........................

(in addition) Today I installed new speedo and parking brake cables.

All this and my list seems to be growing not shrinking. In doing all the above I have discovered a hundred other problems that need my attention but you know what? The last two weekends have been as fun as I can ever remember a weekend being.

Next:
upgrade rear dif (mine 2.88 one wheel burn)
upgrade suspension
install Dual Master Cylinder
Start building 351W

The trick is you have to think small. And it helps to have a Classic Mustang shop down the street which carries every odd ball part you could ever need.

You sound alot like me start on one thing and find out there is still a million other things that can be done. Everytime i try to do a little project it turns into a huge project with ten other things still left to do. I don't think it will ever end. Not that i want it to.

I can relate - started with a nice solid california car in 1996 that (I thought)just needed some "massaging" and detailing to get into great shape. Well 4 years later, you do discover that one improvment leads to another and the list of things to do never really ends - if it did I would probably have to sell it and find another one to spend my time (and $$$$$) on.

Hey Jaydee, if you drive a classic Mustang very much, you'll always have plenhty of work to do and $$$ to spend. At least, that's been my experience.

By doing the little things I have been able to conserve a bit of energy. Today I replaced the Speedometer Cable and Parking Brake cable since both of mine were defective. Im afraid I am running out of little things to do. Im not sure how much longer I can avoid the REAL problems my car has. My damper is bad seems the rubber has slipped. My steering gear box needs to go. My suspension has been jimmy rigged from the beginning, Valve guides are shot, there is a small dent in the hood, and my wife wont drive it until I put disk brakes on it.

Try adjusting the sreeing box before you resort to replacing it. That will eliminate the play most of the time. That would turn a large item into a small one.

It appears the previous owner already did that. In fact it has been tightend so far that the steering wheal will not return after going around a corner. It turns quite easily the fist couple times around but then it gets very difficult. I am assuming the worm gear is badly worn in the center. I have been checking out a bolt on called "Steeroids" its a rack an pinion set up that bolts right on. Its supposed to be an upgrade over stock and it cost only slightly more than a new gear box. www.speeddirect.com for more info
