Disc Brake Conversion

Does Any One Know If I Can Swap All The Running Gear From A 68 V8 289 Coupe Into A 66 6 Cylinder Coupe. I Want To Swap Engine , Transmission, Rear End And Front Disc Brakes.
Anywhere I Can Find A Guide. And Will All This Stuff Fit?

Engine and trans should work. The rear end, i believe, will be a bit too wide. The disc brakes will work. You'll have to swap the tie-rods out. Plus the other steering stuff probably wont work. Check out mustangsplus.com for parts numbers and stuff. Do a google search for "mustang disc brake swap" and you'll find tons of articles on it. Also, do a search on the forums, you'll find tons of old post about this same topic. Good luck.

I Measured The Rear Axle Housing. They Springs Are The Same Distance Apart. From The Measurement From The Backside Of One Drum To The Other Is 1" Greater On The V8 Car. The Drums Are 3/4" Wider Giving Close To 3" Total. Is That Too Wide If A Standard Size Tire Is Used?

it will work, but your tires will be sticking out. It could cause problems if you hit a hard bump or something and the quarter panel comes down on the tire. If you live in any of the states that used to be in the confederacy, you'll be ok, hahaha. Just kidding. Did you get the 68 for free or really cheap?? I would go find a differnet rearend, but there are still alot of usable parts. The dual master cylinder will work. If you have the parts, just try it out, find out if you like it or not. I Gave $1100 For The Car With A Newly Machined Engine And Transmission.
It Also Had Front Disc Brakes. The Rest Of The Car Is A Rust Bucket. I Am Selling Everything I Don't Need To Recoup My Investment. The Guy I Bought If From Was An Auto Mechanics Teacher. He Rebuilt Everything Mechanical And Then Let The Body Rust Away. I Want To Install The Running Gear In My 66. I Am In North Carolina So The Extra Axle Length Won't Be Noticed!

you dont have to change the tie rod ends, as the spindles swap directly. however the drag link is too wide for the 66 car. the rear end on the other hand is also a bit wide, but if you use narrow tires, not recommended, you can make the rear fit, but i would find one from a 65-66 car or a granada.

mustangsplus lists them as being different for 65-66 and 67-69.

yes, because the adjuster threads are different, larger as i recall. the ball joint studs are the same.

I did the granada swap and figured it was the same as that. Sorry bout that.

I Switched The Brakes. Everything Fit Except The 6 Cyl Tie Rod Ends Are Slightly Smaller. The Ends From The V8 Car Won't Fit. Bushing From Mustang Steve Dot Com Are For Granada Swaps. Anyone With Any Suggestions.
