Drip Rail Sealer

Finally found the correct stuff to seal inside my drip rails from a body shop supply store - 3M Heavy Drip-Chek Sealer. They said it can be applied to the metal, primer, or paint. My question is when should I apply this stuff. Before my final primer coat or after?

why would you put that in the drip rail . that stuff is seam sealer ????also if you are gonna use it on your car use it before you primer ....

You want some primer under it so you don't have bare metal there. You also want primer on top too so as it expands and contracts, which it will alittle, you have no bare surfaces.

It is seam sealer. The drip rail is a seam.

That's exactly what my plan was - prime the area, apply the sealer, and then add primer on top. As far as why I'm using it, Ford originally used it in all the drip rails to prevent water seaping in between the body and the welded on drip rails. I've seen some extremely nice restored cars where it wasn't used and they leaked. They then put the stuff over the paint and it looked like crap afterwards.

On the same subject, I have been looking for new drip rails for my brothers 66. The old ones were rotted to the point of no return so we pulled them off. Mustangs Unlimited has them listed in their catalog but they have been backordered for 6mos. I was wondering if you could buy universal drip rails with the moulding allready attached then bend them to fit the opening. I need to know where to get them at. Thanks for the help.

I believe National Parts Depot sells them also. But, if they get them from the same supplier they may have to be backordered there too. Have never seen them with the chrome already attached but that's not to say there not out there somewhere.

Thanks, I'll call NPD today and see. My dads bronco has the ones with the chrome allready attached on it so I know someone makes them I just need to find out who.
